ya the base nature of this violence harks back to townships or rural KZN in the late 1980s. I guess we've been here before, so it isn't that shocking to realise south africans still have the capacity to do this sort of thing. one clear cut apartheid legacy example, in my view.
but the whole thing is weird hey - someone here at SAIIA is doing a quick and dirty - apparently attacks have happened on the 8th of each of the three months prior to May (when they happened first on the 11th), and always in more than one place on that day (the 8th). Smacks of criminal coordination. So over criminals!
