After 500,000 homes are plunged into darkness, Brown prepares to go nuclear

Sound familiar?

Nuclear is absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, the way forward. But ja, good to know the developed world fucks up too, sometimes.

are you being serious about nuclear? hard to tell with you sometimes. but all the wisdom i've ever read - admittedly from the economist - suggests that if the lifetime costs of a nuclear power plant are properly assessed and built into the price users pay now, there'd be little difference between the cost of nuclear and wave power, for example. Cos the life time costs of a nuclear plant, including waste management for the next kazillion years, are high. We just let future generations deal with those costs and pay now only the marginal cost of producing one extra megawatt now.

Fair enough, but the way oil is going at the moment (and even LNG, which is cheaper but rising fast) all the fringe renewables are going to start becoming realistic options soon i'd imagine. Nuclear isnt a fringe option, mind you. Anyway, my comment had less to do with the cost of nuclear, and more to do with stable, relatively green energy sources. We pay too little for energy anyway, so factor in the full life cycle costs and charge me more, thats fine, just make mine NUCLEAR!
